Can I change my name legally, and what is the process?

Yes, you can change your name legally in India. You will be required to file an affidavit with the details of the change of name and thereafter publish in at least one local and one national newspaper. Finally, you will notify in the official Gazette of India. As soon as this notification appears in the Gazette, it will be legal proof of your name change.
